April 21--Authorities have halted the search for the remains of a 5-year-old boy who perished last week in a Sevier County cabin fire.
On Monday, authorities announced the multi-agency search for the remains of Tyveon Temple among the charred rubble of the April 12 blaze had stopped. Tyveon was from Indianapolis.
"We offer our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased," said Dewey Woody, director of the State Fire Marshal's Office and Bomb Section.
"We will continue to focus on processing evidence and investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragedy."
The 4:30 a.m. fire at the Cabins at the Crossing development also resulted in the death of Ricky Hudson, 56, also of Indianapolis. Hudson suffered major cuts when he smashed a window while trying to rescue other members of the party in the burning cabin and died later at LeConte Medical Center.
Hudson and Tyveon were among 22 family members from Indianapolis and Louisville, Ky., gathering at the Little Cabin Loop structure in Sevierville. The group arrived April 9.
Firefighters from 10 agencies arrived to find most of the three-story cabin in flames. Several people were still inside and had to jump from a second-floor balcony to escape the flames.
Fifteen people were treated at LeConte Medical Center for injuries ranging from scratches to broken bones.
Members of the Sevier County Sheriff's Office, the state fire marshal's office, University of Tennessee Anthropology Department and several fire departments spent five days sifting through the debris searching for Tyveon's remains.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
