April 23--ASHEBORO -- A man was injured Wednesday when he became trapped for about 45 minutes after a transmission fell onto him from the truck he was repairing.

Emergency personnel responded about 1:20 p.m. to Queens Road, off West Presnell Street, in Asheboro for a man trapped under a vehicle call, according to Capt. Alan Garner of the Westside Fire Department.

Garner said they found the man pinned by the transmission and that it took less than 5 minutes to extricate him from under the vehicle. Ash-Rand Rescue assisted Westside in the extrication while Randolph County EMS tended to the injured man.

Emergency workers reported that the transmission had fallen on the man's abdominal area. He was transported to Randolph Hospital from where he was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. The identity of the man and his condition were not available Wednesday evening.
