May 01--A Lake Travis firefighter received second-degree burns to one of his hands Wednesday night while fighting a fire at that caused heavy damage to a home in west Travis County.

The firefighter was taken to St. David's Emergency Center in Bee Cave, a fire official said.

About 30 firefighters from multiple departments responded to a fire in the 100 block of Saddlehorn Drive at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they found the garage of the home fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters began spraying down the garage and fighting the fire from inside the home. The injured firefighter was inside the garage when he was burned, Lake Travis Fire Rescue Chief Robert Abbott said.

As the fire worsened, firefighters moved outside of the home and began spraying through the roof. The ceiling and roof eventually collapsed, Abbott said.

By 8 p.m. the fire was under control. Firefighters continued to spray down hot spots at 10 p.m., Abbott said.
