Oregon Woman Dies From Injuries Suffered in Fire

An Albany woman died at the scene of a house fire after being helped from from the blaze by a passerby.

May 02--A 45-year-old Albany woman died after passersby helped her and another resident escape a house fire Thursday night.

Albany Fire responded to a report of a house fire in the 3100 block of Southeast Geary Street around 9 p.m, the fire department said in a press release. Two passersby had forced their way into the home and helped two people out before crews arrived, the release states.

One of the residents, Kimberly Rae Burks, died at the scene from her injuries, Albany Fire said. Investigators from Albany Police and Fire as well as from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the cause.
