May 10--BELOIT -- The American Red Cross is helping seven people who were displaced by a Friday night fire to an apartment house in Beloit, according to a Red Cross news release.
A Beloit firefighter sustained minor injuries, authorities reported Saturday.
The building at 1314 Merrill Street is owned by William L. Roman, according to a Beloit Fire Department news release.
The fire was reported at 10:57 p.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy fire at the back of the structure. All residents that were home at the time of the fire made it out safely, the release states.
The Red Cross is providing seven residents with lodging, food and clothing assistance.
The fire department release stated seven to nine people lived in the building.
There is "extensive" damage to the back of the structure and smoke damage throughout the structure, according to the release.
The fire also damaged a structure near the residence.
The structure is valued at $61,300, the release states.
There was no damage estimate and the fire is still under investigation as of Saturday evening.
