S.C. Firefighter Burned During Hotel Fire

A North Myrtle Beach firefighter received first degree burns on his knee.

May 24--A firefighter was injured as crews battled a two-alarm fire in North Myrtle Beach Friday, said city spokesman Pat Dowling.

The fire occurred in a second-story unit of the the Peppertree By the Sea at 305 South Ocean Boulevard about 5 p.m. Friday.

A firefighter received a first-degree burn on his knee when water vaporized into steam and blew back at him, Dowling said. An occupant of the unit was treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire closed traffic on South Ocean Boulevard between Main Street and Sixth Avenue South.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
