The woman went unconscious waiting for the ambulance.

An elderly woman was transported to a hospital in a D.C. fire truck after the ambulance never showed up.

The 90-year-old reportedly went unconscious while waiting 45 minutes for the medic ambulance, according to WTTG.

The ambulance crew had been rerouted to another call, the station reported.

D.C. fire officials say the incident that happened over the Memorial Day weekend is under investigation.

This isn't the first time a fire truck has been used as a transport vehicle. A child also was rushed to a hospital via engine recently.

The EMS service in the nation's capital has been highly criticized following a number of snafus over the past few years.
