The Irondale firefighter suffered cardiac arrest at a house fire and crews rendered aid immediately.

An Irondale firefighter is in critical condition after suffering cardiac arrest during the later stages of a house fire Saturday.

He collapsed inside the house as crews were looking for hot spots, Irondale Fire Chief Randy Davis told al.com

Crews began CPR and transported him to Trinity Medical Center.

A post on the Irondale Police Department's Facebook page said the firefighter was undergoing hypothermic therapy.

Another post on the Facebook page said: "We are asking for prayers for one of our Irondale firefighters who was injured on duty this morning while fighting a house fire. He is in critical condition at Trinity Medical Center. PLEASE PRAY FOR HIM AND HIS FAMILY."

"It's a pretty dangerous job for our firefighters and it hits us pretty hard when we see one injured," Davis said.
