There were no injuries in the Norfolk blaze.

June 03--NORFOLK -- A two-alarm fire ripped through an apartment building in the 1200 block of E. Ocean View Ave. on Monday afternoon.

All 10 apartments were deemed uninhabitable, said Battalion Chief Julian Williamson, a Norfolk Fire-Rescue spokesman.

A resident called 911 around 5:40 p.m., Williamson said. Firefighters found light smoke coming from the roof area. A second alarm had to be called.

About 45 firefighters worked on the blaze, which took 40 minutes to bring under control.

Everyone was out of the building by the time crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters rescued several animals from the apartments, Williamson said. Norfolk Animal Control was called to help.

All of the apartments were occupied and Williamson said 22 people were displaced.

The Red Cross said it assisted 23 people with food, clothing and lodging.

Williamson said the cause was under investigation.
