Three Hurt as Fishing Boat Catches Fire in Connecticut

The captain of the 40-foot fishing vessel suffered third-degree burns as the boat burned in the Housatonic River.

June 08--MILFORD -- A 40-foot commercial fishing vessel in the Housatonic River near Long Island Sound was destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon, Milford fire Capt. Greg Carman said.

A Coast Guard spokesman said three people were on board the boat at the time of the fire and all were rescued by nearby boats.

The three people were taken to Bridgeport Hospital, and the captain of the fishing boat suffered third-degree burns, the Coast Guard spokesman said..

Along with Milford Fire and the Coast Guard, Stratford and Bridgeport firefighters were called to assist in the fire, Carman said. The fire's cause is under investigation.

Earlier, the Coast Guard had reported four people were aboard the boat.
