June 08--PERRY -- Firefighters from around the region battled a large warehouse blaze Saturday.

Perry Fire Chief Joel Gray said the fire broke out in the warehouse of Big Indian Feed & Tack at about 2 p.m. Firefighters from Warner Robins, Peach County and Robins Air Force Base came to assist.

Speaking at about 4:30 p.m., Gray said they were still battling the blaze but expected to have it out shortly. The fire started in the rear of the warehouse where bales of hay and barn stall shavings were stored. The retail area is at the other end of the building.

The blaze did significant damage to the warehouse. Gray wasn't sure how it might impact the retail area of the business, which is located on Kellwood Drive. The store's Facebook page said Saturday that it was closed "the remainder of the day" and would reopen "as soon as possible."
