Pig Alerts Illinois Family to Fire

June 10, 2014
Lucky squealed, and ran to the bedroom door until his owner got up.

A pig is credited for saving his family from a house fire this past weekend.

""He started screaming. He would jump down, run to the door and then jump back up on the bed and hit me really hard.  I sat up to see what was wrong with him because he usually doesn't do that through the night.  When I sat up, I realized the room was really smoky," Ina Farler told a WFIE reporter.

With things heating up, she got her grandchildren out a window first. Then, a neighbor came to help her and Lucky.

She added that she figured something was up with Lucky because he's usually not up for another hour.

"They make great pets, they're easy to potty train. He was potty trained in a days time.  And they're loving.  They can be very protective actually. He loves my grandkids to death."

Mt. Carmel firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames and doused hot spots for about two hours.

The cause is under investigation.
