A woman who apparently tried to rescue a man in the Troy home when it caught fire was hospitalized for injuries. The man was found dead near a back door.

June 19--One person is dead and another injured after fire ripped through a house in Troy on Wednesday night.

The blaze was at a 1,500-square-foot house in the 100 block of Chopin Street, east of Livernois and north of Maple, according to the Troy Fire Department. Two people, a male and a female, had been in the house at the time of the fire shortly before 10 p.m.

Names and ages of the victims are unknown, the department said in a news release.

The female, who was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak in unknown condition, had apparently tried unsuccessfully to remove the male before firefighters arrived, the release said. She was found outside the house and he was dead near a back doorway.

Firefighters were at the scene for more than two hours. The cause of the fire is unknown, but the investigation is continuing, the release said.
