June 20--RENSSELAER -- An injured construction worker had be carefully lowered from an 80-foot platform on the Patroon Island Bridge, fire officials said.

The worker, who officials said did not suffer life-threatening injuries, was hurt around 1:20 p.m. Thursday while working underneath the bridge. How the worker was hurt was not immediately clear.

Firefighters from Albany, Troy and Rensselaer helped get the man down safely. After the worker was injured, he had to be placed in a rescue basket and lowered to the ground in a crane.

The bridge, which connects Albany to Rensselaer through Interstate 90, has been under construction much of this month.
