The crew got out after a patient became violent.

A patient became the ambulance driver Tuesday night along a Kentucky highway.

State police told Lexington Herald-Leader reporters say they received the distress call from the crew about 11 p.m.

They picked up the ambulance crew and headed down the road to look for the ambulance.Within 10 minutes they found it.

"We always respond as quickly as possible to any emergency call that we get, but especially when it's another EMS, another emergency services vehicle. We know that the potential for danger is there," said Kentucky State Police Trooper Kendra Wilson.

The crew said they got out the ambulance when the patient became unruly and violent.
