Ga. Firefighter Hurt in House Fire Ceiling Collapse

June 28--A house fire Saturday led to the collapse of part of the second floor, according to DeKalb County Fire and Rescue.

No one was home during the fire at the home in the 2400 block of Empire Forest Drive, but one firefighter suffered a minor injury when part of the ceiling collapsed.

"The firefighter made it out fine" and was treated at the scene, DeKalb fire Capt. Eric Jackson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The fire appeared to start on the first floor, according to Jackson. Part of the second floor collapsed onto the lower level. The fire made a hole in the first floor into the crawl space beneath the house, he said.

A total of eight fire engines and trucks responded to the call after noon and the fire was under control before 1 p.m. An investigation will determine the cause and origin of the fire, Jackson said.
