Wilson firefighters battled a fire at Bridgestone Americas tire factory that sent several employees to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

June 28--Firefighters are currently hitting hotspots from a fire that started at Bridgestone Americas in Wilson just before 3 p.m., officials said. Rodney Dancy with the Wilson County Emergency Management said personnel were evacuated from the building. The fire began in the Banberry area on the first floor of the facility. Several employees were treated for smoke inhalation and transported to the hospital, Dancy said, but all have been accounted for. There were no other serious injuries reported.

"There are about 75 responders on scene now," he said.

Dancy said additional resources have been called in to the facility, including Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department and officials manning an EMS rehab trailer.

Wilson Fire and Rescue as well as Silver Lake, Toisnot and Eash Nash volunteer fire departments are working the scene.

He also said they have several volunteer fire departments manning Wilson city stations. As of 4:30 p.m., others areas of the plant appeared to be running. Employees were seen driving into the front gate for work.

Several Bridgestone employees were seen standing away from the plant earlier in the afternoon.
