July 11--Beaumont firefighters used the Jaws of Life Friday afternoon to rescue a 4-year-old boy who was locked inside a safe.

First responders were called to the La Morenita Meat Market, 850 S 11th street, just after 12:30 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they learned the boy had been playing in the storeroom and accidentally locked himself in a safe.

Firefighters used a special saw to cut the hinges of the door and then used the Jaws of Life to pry the door open, according to information from the Beaumont Fire Department.

The boy was freed within 30 minutes.

A medical crew examined the boy on site and determined he was OK, the department reported.
