Crash Leaves Honolulu Paramedic in Serious Condition

Another paramedic and firefighter were injured when the ambulance crashed at a shopping center.

A Honolulu paramedic was in serious condition and two other emergency crew members were hurt when an ambulance found itself in a one-vehicle collision Saturday at the Atkinson Drive ramp of the Ala Moana Shopping Center.

The 10:30 a.m. accident occurred as the ambulance was on a medical call, said Shayne Enright, spokesperson for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.

The driver, a veteran paramedic, suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, while a second paramedic suffered serious injuries and was also transported. In addition, a firefighter sustained minor injuries and was transported to an emergency room, Enright said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, she said.
