Firefighter Among Those Injured in Virginia Duplex Fire

A Virginia Beach firefighter was one of four people hurt in a duplex fire that displaced 14 residents.

July 31--VIRGINIA BEACH -- One person was taken to a hospital, three others were injured and 14 people were displaced this morning by a duplex fire in Virginia Beach.

All of those injured, including a firefighter, are expected to be fine. The one person who was taken to a hospital also suffered minor injuries, said Battalion Chief Tracy Freeman.

The fire was reported at 3:10 a.m. in the 100 block of Morrison Ave., dispatchers said.

The blaze was under control 20 to 25 minutes after firefighters arrived. One of the units was a total loss and the other had smoke damage.

The fire was believed to have started in a kitchen, but the cause remains under investigation.

The American Red Cross was called to help the displaced residents.
