Glendale Fire Department has been out of service since Aug. 6 when it lost a firefighter, Jonathan French, 24.

French and his mother, Lisa, were putting out a vehicle fire when a rig hit their fire engine, pushing it into them, according to WLKY.

Jonathan died instantly, while Lisa is recovering from a broken knee and dislocated elbow.

Glendale Fire Chief Richard Peters, Lisa French's brother, said firefighters from Sonora, Elizabethtown, Central Hardin, Upton and Stevensburg have been covering their area while they've been in mourning.
