Oct. 22--One firefighter was injured during a fire Wednesday morning at a Downers Grove apartment complex.

Fire crews were called about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday to the Prentiss Creek apartment complex in the 2000 block of Prentiss Drive in Downers Grove, said fire department spokeswoman Marsha Giesler.

Authorities believe the fire began in a second floor apartment and then spread to the apartment directly above, Giesler said. She said the 3-story building has sustained heavy smoke damage.

"It's far too early to know what exactly happened," Giesler said.

Nobody inside the complex had been injured in the fire, Giesler said, but one firefighter had been hurt. Though he was not seriously hurt, the nature of injuries was not immediately available, Giesler said.

The building was fully occupied but everyone got out safely, said Giesler. The blaze was extinguished at some point before 7 a.m.

There will be some displacements, including those who live in the apartment where the fire started and the unit above it, Giesler said.
