New Orleans Capt. Dies While Training in N.M.

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) has confirmed that a 39-year-old captain with the New Orleans Fire Department died Sunday after falling ill at special training in New Mexico.

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) has confirmed that a 39-year-old captain with the New Orleans Fire Department died Sunday after falling ill at special training in New Mexico.

According to the USFA, Captain Troy Magee fell ill on Friday, Oct. 24 during special operations training and died in the hospital on Sunday, Oct. 26. The cause and manner of death remains under investigation, the USFA reported.

New Orleans’ newspaper The Times Picayune reported that Magee was a 13-year veteran of the fire department and had long been interested in the fire service, including childhood.

New Orleans Fire Department, Superintendent, Tim McConnell told the newspaper that Magee was continuously training to improve himself and provide better service to the city. He was also an honored member of the department for having saved a crash victim from a burning car while off duty.

According to his obituary, Magee was survived by his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews.

A “homegoing celebration” will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3 at the Celebration Church, 2001 Airline Drive, Metairie, La., followed by a motorcade lead by the New Orleans Fire Department to an interment service at Mount Olivet Cemetery in New Orleans.
