Police charged a driver after he struck a Washington D.C. firefighter early Saturday.
Fire crews were at a building fire on Florida Avenue NE around 3:30 a.m. when the car quickly approached the scene, The Washington Post reported. The firefighter used his hands in an attempt to slow the driver.
“The driver ignores that. Instead, he speeds up,” police spokesman Araz Alali told the newspaper.
The firefighter was struck and and pinned against a fire truck.
D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Tim Wilson said the firefighter suffered leg injuries, but was considered non-life-threatening.
The driver, from Auburn Hills, Mich., was charged with felony assault.
