A volunteer firefighter from Inwood was in cardiac arrest after he found trapped by debris in the basement of a Woodmere home in Nassau County this morning.

According to a report by Newsday, it was unclear if the volunteer firefighter in his 40s fell through the floor at the home or if he was in the basement and debris fell on him. Two other firefighters suffered minor injuries during the battle but did not require hospitalization.

WABS News 7 reported the floor had been compromised and the firefighter, who has not been identified publicly, fell through and suffered cardiac arrest.

The Newsday report said the badly injured firefighter was in cardiac arrest when found, but was later in stable but critical condition and transported to a local hospital and later transferred to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset.

More than 200 firefighters from 14 departments were on the scene battling the early morning blaze, according to Newsday.
