One Dead in Violent Collision with Texas Fire Truck

July 26, 2015
Several Irving firefighters were hurt after they were ejected in the crash.

Three firefighters were injured Sunday morning in a collision that left an 18-wheeler and an Irving fire truck on their sides.

Emergency crews were called to Highway 183 near Beltline Road for an emergency involving a drunk driver who fled the scene

The 18-wheeler slammed into the Irving ladder truck, flipping both rigs, according to NBCDFW.com. The semi caught fire, killing the driver. Officials are unsure if anyone else was in the rig.

The firefighters were ejected from their apparatus and transported to Parkland hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In a third crash at the scene, a suspected drunken driver crashed into an occupied police car. That driver was arrested at the scene.

Police later apprehended the driver of the first crash.
