The Benefits of Attending Training Outside Of Your Department

Nov. 25, 2015
Get out outside of your comfort zone and make it a goal to attend Firehouse World in San Diego.

Do you ever think that there might be a different way of handling an incident after you leave the fireground? Or do you personally want to set a goal of getting healthier and in shape, but not sure how to go about doing that.

There are a variety of ways to learn – listening to webcasts and podcasts, reading articles in your favorite magazine and website or from your social media. But, do you desire another way to learn more?

Benefits of training outside your department

Training and networking at fire service conferences and trade shows is a great way to learn from others and meet peer and colleagues with similar goals. Both professional and personal goals can be advanced at conference and trade shows.

Multiple education options

More importantly trade shows provide a good forum to take multiple classes on multiple days and learn from influential and top national leaders for an affordable price. For example, Firehouse World being held Jan. 31 – Feb. 4, 2016 is offering more than 80 educational sessions, networking opportunities, moderated panels and the Firehouse Fitness Showcase and circuit workouts. Show management has packaged this experience so it’s affordable for firefighters and time efficient for commanding officers.

Affordability

Firehouse World offers special early bird savings when you register by Dec. 1. A three-day conference package is only $375, a two-day conference pass is $299 and a one-day conference pass is only $199.  All conference packages include admission to the exhibit hall. If you live in California or in a surrounding state, you can choose to drive or fly for a nominal cost.

Brotherhood

One of the most valuable benefits of a trade show is meeting and learning from others outside of your immediate circle. This year’s theme at Firehouse World is "Training Without Barriers or Borders." Instructors from the United Kingdom and Germany will be presenting a new and different perspective on what their respective countries are learning about fire.

So, get out outside of your comfort zone and make it a goal to attend Firehouse World in San Diego. It will be an invaluable experience you will want to repeat yearly.
