The 79-year-old man was in cardiac arrest when he was removed from the Fort Worth home.

Firefighters rescued a man from a Fort Worth house fire Thursday morning.

Engine 22 found smoke coming from the one-story home in the 4400 block of Carmel Avenue when they arrived just after 10:30 a.m.

The crew encountered an 80-year-old woman who said her husband was still trapped inside the home, according to fire department spokesman Kyle Clay. The woman was able to break a window and escape from the rear of the home.

Capt. Larry Manasco broke through a window and entered the home where he located the man and brought him outside. The 79-year-old man was in cardiac arrest and firefighters began treatment.

He was transported by Medstar to John Peter Smith Hospital.

Medstar treated the woman at the scene and took her to Baylor - All Saints Hospital for evaluation.

Clay said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
