Early reports indicate a firefighter trying to rescue victims might be among those injured

A multiple-alarm in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, claimed the lives of two family members and injured three. Among those injured may be a firefighter.

According to CBS2 News a fire on East 49th street broke out at about 5:30 a.m. this morning trapping two adults in upstairs bedrooms. A young boy was standing in a second-floor window before firefighters arrive, according to witnesses. He jumped from the burning building at by-standers' encouragement. Another good Samaritan rescued another victim from a second-floor window using a ladder and tried to rescue still another before being driven back by flames and smoke

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they did not hear smoke alarms sounding and suspect the dwelling may not have had smoke detectors in place at the time of the fire. It's cause remains under investigation.

Firehouse will report additional news as it becomes available.
