Massive Fire Rips Through Pa. Salvage Yard

No injuries were reported after a fast-moving fire destroyed much of a Grantville salvage yard on Friday.

The owner of a Grantville salvage yard dismantling a car ignited a fire that ripped through his salvage yard in seconds on Friday morning.

According to television station Fox43, fire broke out at Weaver's Wrecking yard at about 11 a.m. when its owner Rodney Weaver when a gasoline tank on the vehicle he was dismantling ignited and flames quickly spread to tires and nearby oil barrels. A nearby building went up in seconds, according to the television station.

It's estimated that at least 18 crews from several surrounding counties battled the blaze, according to Fox43. Tankers were used to shuttle water to the site and there was some initial difficulties establishing a water supply, the station reported. The fire was extinguished about three hours after firefighters initially arrived on the scene.

Two other fires have occurred at the salvage yard over the past 10 years, but the third was the first to engulf the building which collapsed 45 minutes after the fire started, according to the television station. There were no injuries reported.
