One Dead, Two Hurt in Emmitsburg, Md., House Fire

One person is dead and two other hurt following a house fire in Emmitsburg Monday morning.

One person is dead and two other hurt following a house fire in Emmitsburg Monday morning.

According to a news release from the Fredrick County Sheriff's Department, the fire was at 112 West Main Street in a building which housed several apartments. Initial reports said there were people trapped in the structure.

The Vigilant Hose Company conducted rescue operations upon arrival and took three people from the building, according to the news release.

One of the persons was fatally injured and declared dead at the scene. Another victim was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma by Maryland State Police Helicopter and the other remaining victim was transported by ambulance to the Gettysburg Hospital in Pennsylvania for treatment, according to the news release.

The Frederick County Fire Investigation Task Force is currently on the scene conducting the cause and origin and death investigation. The event is in its early stages and is ongoing, the news release reported.
