Continuing with a 20-year tradition, San Diego firefighters provided holiday meals for 325 families

Continuing with a Christmas tradition that has gone well past the twenty-year mark, San Diego City Firefighters, IAFF Local 145, once again handed out turkeys and bags of potatoes to provide a holiday meal for 325 families.

Partnering with San Diego City Schools, the firefighters handed out the meals to pre-selected families at Station 19 on Friday afternoon and Station 17 Saturday morning. With their apparatus in the driveway ready to answer a call, the station crews received help from off-duty firefighters, San Diego City Schools teachers and members of the San Diego Padres baseball team.

Providing meals is for the holidays is only the start of the holiday festivities for firefighters. Several days before Christmas arrives, a San Diego engine will provide transportation for Santa as he delivers presents and other Christmas surprises to a number of deserving San Diego families.
