Mistaken for Intruder, Ark. Firefighter Shot Dead on EMS Call

Jan. 22, 2016
East Pulaski Lt. Jason Adams, 29, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

An Arkansas firefighter, mistaken for a burglar by a patient, was shot and killed early Friday.

Officials believe the shooter may have thought East Pulaski Lt. Jason Adams, 29, was an intruder, KATV reported.

The man was coming out of a seizure, saw Adams standing in his bedroom, and shot him, a witness told the station.

It has not been determined if there will be charges filed.

Adams was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock and pronounced dead.

Sherwood Fire Dept., where Adams was a career firefighter, released a statement on its Facebook page: "It is with heavy heart that we announce the loss of our brother Lt. Jason Adams. Jason was making a medical call with his volunteer department this morning when he was shot and killed. Jason had a witty sense of humor and could make everyone laugh. He will be greatly missed. Please keep his family and friends in your prayers as we go through this hard time."
