Three CAL firefighters were hurt after the fire truck they were in fell 25-feet after the bridge they were on collapsed.
The firefighters had responded to a fatal crash on the bridge in Jellys Ferry at about 3 a.m., according to television station KHSL12.
While they were stationed on the bridge, the structure, which had been damaged as a result of the crash, caused the 13-ton truck to roll off and fall 25 feet before hitting the ground below. The firefighters were taken to a local hospital where they were treated and later released.
An 18-year-old male from Red Bluff, CA, was driving a 1998 GMC pickup when he allegedly made an unsafe turning maneuver and collided with the bridge railing, going airborne and then striking a metal support pillar causing major structural damage. That's when the fire truck rolled off the bridge.
The pickup driver twas fully ejected, while a teen passenger was seriously injured.
The bridge will have to be replaced. It serves Jellys Ferry community handling about 350 vehicles a day.
