The car that sideswiped the cruiser caught on fire.

A Maryland State Police trooper rescued a driver from a burning car after his cruiser was sideswiped over the weekend.

Trooper Samuel Morris was conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 270 northbound near Montrose Road in Montgomery County around 6:40 a.m. Saturday when the crash occurred, according to WRC-TV

The vehicle of the driver, identified as 29-year-old Stephen Shannon, rolled onto its side after hitting the cruiser and caught fire.

Morris rescued Shannon from the wreckage after breaking through the windshield and he was transported to Suburban Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The trooper was not transported to the hospital and the driver of the car involved in the traffic stop was not injured.

Charges are pending for Shannon, and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
