Charges Dropped Against Teens in UK Firefighter's Death

Sept. 29, 2016
Stephen Hunt was killed in a 2013 fire that was believed to be caused by two teens who were smoking.

Charges against two teens in a fire that claimed the life of a Great Manchester Fire and Rescue firefighter have been dropped.

Stephen Hunt was killed battling a fire at Paul's Hair World Manchester's Northern Quarter in July 2013.

The 15-year-old girls faced a number of charges, including manslaughter and arson while being reckless as to whether life was endangered, according to the Bolton News.

Investigators said the fire started after the teens were smoking outside the business, which led to the charges.

Crown Prosecution Service said investigators could not rule out accidental ignition.

"Following the findings from the coroner’s inquest, the Crown Prosecution Service and GMP reviewed the case and it has been determined that no further action will be taken," the Greater Manchester police said in a statement.

Hunt, who also served with the Royal Corps of Signals, left behind two children.
