Boston Firefighters Challenged by Cold at Six-Alarm Blaze

Boston firefighters fought a fire in a mixed-use building from the exterior in single-digit temperatures.

Battling single-digit temperatures Boston firefighters fought a six-alarm mixed use building fire on Bunker Hill Street in the Charlestown section of the city.

According to CBS Boston 4WBZ , the fire broke out at about 7 a.m. on Friday, but ripped through the three-story building which has a laundromat on the first floor and apartments above.

As of midmorning on Friday, no injuries were reported and Boston firefighters and six residents were displaced by the fire. All were being aided by the Massachusetts Red Cross.

Firefighters were battling the blaze from the exterior of the building with temperatures around the 5 degree mark and wind chill factors below zero. Thawing devices and road treatment equipment was being summoned to the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
