MS Firefighters, Deputies Rescue Woman from Fire

Feb. 16, 2017
Two East Oktibbeha County firefighters were nearby when the call came in and they rushed to the scene to pull the woman to safety.

A woman is alive after East Oktibbeha County firefighters and sheriffs rescued her from a trailer fire.

East Oktibbeha County Volunteer Fire Department Chief Greg Ball and firefighter Chris Sartin were nearby when the pager went off.

"If we weren't nearby, I don't think we would have been making a rescue," Ball told The Dispatch.

Sartin jumped behind the wheel of the pumper while Ball drove a rescue unit to the scene where they found smoke coming from a trailer and the woman hanging from a small window.

"I grabbed a ladder off the (pumper), while (Sartin) suited up in case he had to go in through the fire for the rescue," recalled ball.

Sheriff's deputies Tyrone Edmonds and Brandon Griggs arrived and helped the firefighters pull the woman from the window.

Ball called it a group effort and said that their training paid off.

"Our guys got out there quick and knocked the fire down fast," Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan said. "We didn't do anything heroic -- those guys did what needed to be done.

The woman was treated at the scene, but her trailer suffered extensive damage.
