WY Fire Chief Dies After Helping Remove Ice Jams

Greybull Fire Chief Paul Murdoch, 53, was found unresponsive at home after removing ice jams from Bighorn River.

Funeral plans have been set for a longtime fire chief who passed away last week.

Greybull Fire Chief Paul Murdoch, 53, spent Feb. 16 removing ice jams from Bighorn River.

He was found unresponsive later that night, according to the Billings Gazette.

"Chief Murdoch will be greatly missed by the fire service and his community," Worland Fire Chief Chris Kocher said. 

Murdoch joined the department in 1985 and was elected fire chief in 1997. According to his obituary, Murdoch's father was also fire chief. 

Muroch is survived by his wife and two children.

The funeral is scheduled for Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Greybull High School.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, Murdoch's passing the 10th line-of-duty deaths in 2017.
