April 24--WOODBURY HEIGHTS, NJ-- The former treasurer of a local fire association appeared in court last week after being accused of stealing more than $170,000 from the association over a period of several years.
NJ.com reports that 51 year-old Richard Conway was charged in December with the theft and appeared in court for a pre-indictment hearing in a case that has been referred to a grand jury.
The criminal complaint says that from 2010 through 2016, Conway allegedly deposited checks from the Woodbury Heights Improvement, Protective and Fire Association into his personal bank account. Authorities have not revealed how the alleged crime went undetected for so long.
Efforts to reach borough and association officials for comment were unsuccessful.
