Norfolk firefighter Wally Ching had a life-saving kidney transplant thanks to an anonymous donor.

April 26-- Thanks to an anonymous donor, a veteran Virginia firefighter has received a life-saving operation.

WAVY reports that Norfolk firefighter Wally Ching, who has been a first responder in Hampton Roads for over 30 years, underwent a kidney transplant Tuesday and is doing well.

Ching was undergoing his annual physical last May when doctors realized his blood chemistry was off, and the father of two was subsequently diagnosed with kidney disease. The Norfolk Fire Department quickly started the "Wally's Kidney Kampaign" Facebook page to help find a donor and chronicle his journey.

"His family and friends are so thankful for this gift and thank the donor so much!" reads a post on the page, which is accompanied by a photo of a smiling Ching awaiting surgery in the hospital.

GoFundMe page has also been created to help Ching and his family handle the medical costs.
