MA 'Hoarder' House Fire Leaves Two Dead

June 19, 2017
Fire officials said it was hard to enter the Westfield home, calling it a "hoarding situation."

June 19--Two people were killed in a house fire in Westfield over the weekend, and fire officials were quick to describe the scene as a "hoarding situation."

Authorities say firefighters were called to the scene at about 3 p.m. on Saturday and at first found it difficult to even enter the structure because of all the possessions inside and outside the home, according to the Associated Press. There were also no working fire alarms inside the residence.

Although nearby fire hydrants weren't working properly, Westfield Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Egloff said three vehicles carrying 750 gallons of water responded immediately to the blaze and gave firefighters enough water to extinguish it.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another died later at a local hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
