A busy Miami-Dade County highway was closed for hours Thursday as officials investigated a deadly crash involving a Miami-Dade fire vehicle.
Firefighters were working a crash on southbound lanes of the Palmetto Expressway when a driver crashed into the back of the pumper.
Local10.com identified the driver as Lizardo Alvarez, 57, of Hialeah.
Officials said no firefighters were injured in the crash the caused extensive damage to the apparatus.
The Florida Highway Patrol was called to investigate the crash.
