Aug. 21-- Ocala firefighters made quick work of a house fire sparked by a charging hoverboard.

Ocala firefighters were dispatched to the 5000 block of SW 41st Street at around 6:44 p.m. Sunday when a residential structure fire was reported, according to a release by Ocala Fire Rescue. Crews arrived at a single-story structure and found smoke coming from the garage.

After making entry and identifying the hoverboard as the source of the fire, firefighters made a quick attack and extinguished the blaze within two minutes of arrival, preventing it from spreading from the point of origin to the structure. No injuries were reported.

Hoverboards left unattended while charging have sparked fires all around the country as they continue to grow in popularity, including several fatal incidents that led the federal government to issue warnings to consumers.

"Hoverboards, like any electronic device, should be monitored while plugged in, to minimize the risk of fires caused by overcharging or system malfunction," Ocala Fire Rescue said in its release.
