Former FL Firefighter Accused of Theft from Ambulance

Months after being fired from West Palm Beach Fire Rescue, he's charged with stealing a saw and thermal imager.

A former firefighter with West Palm Beach is accused of stealing equipment from an ambulance.

West Palm Beach fire officials told the Palm Beach Post that Kenneth Gray, 34, was fired from the department in February, but did not elaborate.

On Aug. 11, police were notified a $450 cordless electrical saw was missing from an fire department ambulance.

Police investigators found that saw, marked with “WPBFD” and “West Palm Beach Fire Dept,” at a pawn shop a few days later.

Surveillance video showed Gray and his wife in the shop, where she pawned the saw for $30.

On Sept. 2, Gray told West Palm Beach police officers that he used a hidden button on two occasions to enter the ambulance to steal the saw and a thermal imaging camera. When police asked about medications and medical equipment that were missing, Gray said he wasn't aware of that.

According to the police report, Gray told officers "repeatedly said that he was embarrassed and had no money and needed to find a way to make money to feed him and his wife."

He was arrested on Sept. 5 and faces two counts of both burglary from an emergency vehicle and larceny of more than $300 of emergency medical equipment.

He's being held on $20,000 bail.
