Ceriello to Present Firehouse Expo Keynote Address

Sept. 21, 2017
FDNY Capt. John Ceriello's address, "Pulling Back the Curtain: A Cautionary Tale," will kick-off Firehouse Expo.

FDNY Capt. John Ceriello has been named the keynote speaker to kick-off this year's Firehouse Expo in Nashville next month.

Ceriello's address, "Pulling Back the Curtain: A Cautionary Tale," will look at the current state of the fire service, and address the future, saying this is an exciting time to be in the fire service because of the myriad of resources and research to understanding firefighters and the dangerous environments they contend with.

"Capt. Ceriello’s extensive experience within the FDNY and his contributions to the research in the areas of firefighter safety and fire behavior make him a perfect choice to be this year’s keynote speaker," said Firehouse Editor-in-Chief Tim Sendelbach.

Despite the positive efforts by fire department to assess their current tactics, Ceriello says some firefighters are trying to undermine those advancements.

"John will provide attendees with a no-nonsense view of our modern tactics and the ongoing development of the modern fireground," said Sendelbach.

Ceriello is a 29-year veteran of the FDNY and serves on the UL Firefighter Safety Research advisory panel.  He had an integral part in the FDNY and NIST Wind-Impacted Fires Project research that looked at high-rise firefighting operations.

"Capt. Ceriello’s address is one to look forward to and one that you certainly won’t want to miss."

The Firehouse Expo opening ceremony begins at 8:15 a.m. on Oct. 19, in the Davidson Ballroom at the Music City Center.
