Sept. 24--The Chattanooga Fire Department fought to put a fire out in a house on the 1200 block of O'Grady Drive in Lookout Valley on Sunday afternoon.
No one was home at the time of the fire. It took nine fire companies 45 minutes to get the fire in the two-story house under control.
The house suffered extensive damage due to the tin roof, which made firefighting difficult. Firefighters tried to attack the fire from the inside, but heavy fire and structural instability led to them being pulled out.
No dollar amount for property damage has been set at this time, as the fire is still under investigation.
This is the fourth fire in Lookout Valley within a week.
Last Sunday a fire claimed the life of a man and badly injured a woman on the 1200 block of Judy's Lane, just half-a-mile from today's fire.
Another fire happened later the same day on the 3200 block of Beech Street. A man had to jump from a second-floor window to escape that fire. He injured both his ankles.
The third fire occurred Wednesday on the 100 block of Centro Avenue. A woman was found on the floor, breathing but unresponsive in the smoke-filled house. She was later transported to the burn unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where she was in critical condition.
