Oct. 24--TOWN OF ONONDAGA, NY-- Volunteer firefighters were forced from a home on Cedarvale Road in the town of Onondaga shortly before the second floor collapsed during a fire Monday night, according to reports.
Someone called the Onondaga County 911 Center at 9:25 p.m. to report a fire with heavy smoke conditions at 4378 Cedarvale Road.
Howlett Hill Fire Department, Onondaga County Sheriff's Office and Marcellus Ambulance responded, according to the 911 website.
Several other local fire departments also helped as the fire continued to spread.
Onondaga Hill, Nedrow, Taunton, Elbridge, Fairmount, Camillus, Marcellus, Warners-Memphis, South Onondaga and Navarino volunteer firefighters, the Jordan Fire Department's rehab unit and Onondaga County Emergency Management were on scene, officials said.
The homeowners were reportedly out of the house, according to unofficial police scanner reports.
Fire police blocked traffic so only emergency crews could drive near the house while firefighters battled the blaze.
Shortly after firefighters arrived, officers reported the north side of the home was fully involved. Crews also reported smoky conditions.
About 40 minutes after the fire call, fire officials could be heard on the police scanner yelling, "The second floor is collapsing. Everybody out."
A chief then asked over the radios for another chief to be an "accountability officer." Later, fire officials could be heard over the police scanner saying they wanted every firefighter to go to the rehab unit on scene because of all the smoke.
No injuries have been reported.
National Grid arrived around 10:15 p.m.
The American Red Cross also was at the scene.
