OH Firefighter Pinned by Car, Leg Amputated

A Springfield Township firefighter was at an accident scene Wednesday night when he was pinned by another vehicle.

A volunteer firefighter in Ohio who is 72 years old lost a leg to amputation after he was pinned between cars while responding to an accident scene Wednesday night.

WHIO reports that Springfield Township firefighter David Noble, an Air Force veteran, is in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery following the horrid incident on U.S. 68 in Clark County.

Noble was responding to a two-car wreck and assisting a driver from an SUV when officials say another vehicle "slid through" the accident scene and pinned him to the SUV. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where his leg was amputated.

Sgt. Jason Cadle with the Ohio Highway Patrol told WHIO that there was no sign of impairment on the part of the driver who struck Noble, although an investigation into the incident in not complete.

Drivers striking first responders at accident scenes has become something some firefighters say they fear more than entering a burning structure, and public safety agencies are consistently trying to raise awareness so drivers pay better attention on the road when accidents are ahead.
