Stacks of Cardboard Burn at CA Plant

Santa Clara firefighters found stacks of cardboard up to 15 feet high burning at a cardboard manufacturing plant.

SANTA CLARA — Firefighters have knocked down a blaze that ignited early Tuesday morning at a cardboard manufacturing plant near Mineta San Jose International Airport.

The fire ignited outside the large industrial building in the 500 block of Matthew Street, according to the Santa Clara Fire Department. It was burning outside the structure and fueled by stacks of cardboard up to 15 feet high, according to the fire department.

The plant manager confirmed all employees were evacuated and accounted for, according to the fire department.

At 4:30 a.m., the fire department reported the blaze had been knocked down and overhaul operations would be taking place for several hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
